We are a 78-year-old, 2nd generation well established, medical model, private optometric practice in East Hampton, Connecticut ready to transition to a new owner.
It’s a turn-key, ground floor modern office in a terrific location (not a storefront or strip mall) on the busiest intersection in the area, fully credentialed with most insurance companies, has two opticians/techs, two front office cross-trained staff and one exceptional office manager/billing guru. We have three exam lanes with two pre-test/specialty testing rooms, EIDON high resolution widefield imaging, OCT and all of the rest of the toys you would expect at a medically oriented office. We are a contact lens specialty office (lots of toric and multifocal patients) with most patients coming in annually for their exams (which translates into TWO exam fees for ONE patient). We have fully configured contact lens trial lens inventories including just about every lens you’ve ever heard of and some you haven’t. We can achieve terrific vision with contact lenses for just about everyone. The optical dispensary has about 1,500 frames available for patients to try on. And we have 15,000 - 20,000 patients in our office management system. Annual revenue averages $1 million. And a very good take home net (35-40%). East Hampton is a wonderful small town near Middletown about 25 minutes from Hartford with no competition within 8 miles. Patients have been returning to our office for generations.
The owner OD wants to cut back to a couple days a week while guiding and mentoring his successor. We currently only work 4 days a week (Thursdays off), between 32 and 38 hours seeing about 15 patients a day. No Saturdays, unless you want them. We see patients of all ages, typically from 4 to 102 (that’s our record!) for all sorts of refractive issues including issues with binocularity requiring prism, dry eyes, foreign body removal and the diagnosis and treatment of every conceivable condition that patients present with.
If you want to be a contract employee at a corporation or chain working 40-60 hours a week, somewhere where no one will ever remember your name, and always be at the mercy of your supervisor, this is not for you. We make our own hours, set our own vacations and have a wonderful time interacting with our patients, who return year after year. We want them to enjoy coming to see us as much as we enjoy enhancing, safeguarding and protecting their vision. We change people’s lives for the better every day.
